SANJOSE, November 30, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — TDK Corporation (TSE:6762) today announced that its subsidiary TDK Ventures, Inc. has invested in Series B financing of actnano, a nanomaterials technology company setting new standards for protection of electronics through its water and environmental resistance smart coating solutions that protect a variety of products. actnano is currently focused on customers in the automotive sector and has already applied its coatings to components within approx. 1.2M vehicles on the road today. Its main customers include global automotive and consumer electronics OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.
actnano’s nanocoating technology is specifically designed to ensure that automotive electronics continue to perform in wet, damp or other harsh environmental conditions. Their hydrophobic and electrically insulating coating can be applied directly to connectors, antennas, LEDs and high heat generating components. Since many types of components and connections have historically been uncoated and therefore vulnerable to water damage, this is a game changer for the industry.
By partnering with actnano, TDK Ventures continues to fulfill its commitment to invest in startups that leverage innovations in basic materials science to contribute to society and the planet for the good of humanity.
President of TDK Ventures Nicholas Sauvage said: “The rapid growth of electric vehicles and self-driving vehicles over the past decade has been amazing. The protection of the electronics of these vehicles, including their advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) , is vital to the continued safety of the general public, as well as the continued growth of electric vehicles, which play an important role in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. For this reason, actnano is a significant investment for TDK Ventures. We are look forward to working with actnano and our co-investors to accelerate the acceleration of market adoption of their breakthrough coatings.”
“When automotive electronics, such as autopilot systems, interact with water or other environmental aggressors, the consequences can be disastrous. There has been virtually no innovation in the protective coating category for decades. decades. With the explosion of technology-laden and autonomous vehicles, a better solution was needed,” said Taymur Ahmad, CEO of actnano. “So that sparked the genesis of our nanomaterial coating technology. I am delighted that TDK Ventures has joined our Series B funding. TDK’s philosophy of contributing to society by supporting entrepreneurs who, like actnano, are dedicated to making the world a better place speaks very strongly about them.”
the $21.75M The Series B funding round was led by BMW i Ventures with participation from TDK Ventures, Hella Ventures, Emerald Technology Ventures, GC Ventures America, Henkel Tech Ventures, Ireon Ventures and Material Impact, which offer unique value for growth of actnano.
