New president and chief operating officer for an earthquake technology company
First, MicroSeismic, Inc., a seismic technology company, announced that Gary Hargraves has been named president and chief operating officer. Company founder Peter M. Duncan, Ph.D. will continue with MicroSeismic as CEO.
Second, Dr. Duncan will focus his efforts on advancing MicroSeismic’s new services; KarstAlert® (Sinkhole Monitoring) and CO2SeQure™ (CCS Monitoring). He will participate in the development of new technologies; and promoting the economic and environmental benefits of MSI’s offerings.
I am very happy to welcome Gary to MicroSeismic! Over the past 20 years I have seen the industry and our business change and change again and again. The current environment offers many new and exciting opportunities for applying the MicroSeismic technologies we have developed and put into practice. Gary brings the perfect blend of talent and experience to lead us into this new era and these new markets.
Third, Mr. Hargraves brings years of experience in digital services at global companies in the oil and gas, mining, airline and retail industries. He has successfully led teams and projects across a diverse portfolio, including business development, mergers and acquisitions, digital strategy; and data solutions.
Join a seismic technology
It is such an honor to join MicroSeismic, a company that for nearly 20 years has used state-of-the-art passive seismic technology to protect its customers’ investments in unconventional resources. I join at the right time to help MicroSeismic modernize its core business offering while applying the same proven technology and expertise to environmental (ESG) applications as we enter the sinkhole and carbon sequestration markets. I look forward to helping MicroSeismic grow as a global data and IOT leader, with a focus on protecting our customers’ investments and the integrity of their operations, and helping to ensure the environmental compliance and risk mitigation.

Prior to MicroSeismic, Mr. Hargraves was at Capgemini. There he helped develop ESG and carbon tracking data solutions used to monitor the hydrocarbon value chain. At Wipro, Mr. Hargraves helped start and grow their digital oil, gas and mining business.
Moreover, at IBM, he defined the first Blockchain and IOT solutions that became fundamental in the industry. In the first half of his career, he was part of one of the biggest retail digital transformations for a global convenience store. He was also a consultant on two of the largest mergers and acquisitions in the airline industry.
Additionally, Mr. Hargraves earned his bachelor’s degree in Information and Operations Management from Texas A&M University.
MicroSeismic, Inc. provides essential data to maintain the health and vitality of surface and subsurface assets. The company started in 2003 with a mission to bring passive seismic technology to the oilfield.
Additionally, he has successfully monitored wellbore stability in tectonically active zones; CO2 sequestration (CCUS), sinkhole development, enhanced geothermal systems, reservoir stimulation; and seismic hazards in environmentally sensitive areas.
The shale boom of the mid-2000s overwhelmed it with demand for hydraulic fracture monitoring. Today, priorities have changed. While fracking monitoring is still a business driver for the company, new opportunities have expanded its original vision.
Finally, an adaptable technology and nearly 20 years of experience allow it to apply passive seismic techniques to a wide range of problems related to the petroleum field and beyond.
