PHOENIX – Exro Technologies, a cleantech company, will open its U.S. headquarters in Mesa, officials said in a statement on Tuesday.

The 15,000 square foot location will serve as a multi-purpose facility to expand research, development and testing to improve technology in different types of electric vehicles.

Exro plans to hire 50 employees for the location over the next 18 months.

“The Greater Phoenix area was a natural fit for our home in the United States, and we are thrilled to be a part of the innovative business community,” said Sue Ozdemir, CEO of Exro Technologies, in the statement.

“The region is teeming with manufacturing partners and potential suppliers, and its competitive talent pool will support our continued growth. “

Exro plans to leverage Arizona’s electric vehicle and automotive resources to continue to grow, the statement said.

The company’s announcement of its expansion into the United States came shortly after graduating from the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Exro was originally part of the Toronto Venture Exchange, which allows the public to invest in new and emerging companies.

In addition to graduating from TSX, Exro has developed a new class of power electronics for electric motors and batteries that the company wants to continue developing at Mesa, the statement said.

The company’s move has been welcomed by officials from the City of Mesa and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council as the company aligns with their green goals.

Mesa plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
