Bridgestone invests in long-haul autonomous trucking technology company Kodiak Robotics
âAutomated vehicles offer a number of benefits to commercial fleet customers and to society, including safer roads with fewer unplanned incidents and up to 20% fuel and efficiency savings,â said declared Paul Ferrari, Global Solutions Director, Bridgestone Corporation and President and CEO, Bridgestone Americas. âAdvances in tire-centric technologies are key to unlocking greater innovation in mobility, while delivering significant sustainability benefits. This investment will allow Bridgestone and Kodiak to work together to jointly develop advanced mobility solutions with speed and precision that will revolutionize commercial trucking. “
Kodiak autonomously moves freight for its customers using its fleet of level 4 autonomous long-haul trucks in the state of Texas with a security driver on board. With plans to deploy driverless trucks in the next few years, complete vehicle intelligence is a major key to unlocking safe, efficient and sustainable range for Kodiak and its customers. Bridgestone’s suite of cloud-based technologies harnesses data from connected vehicles to help predict tire condition and maintenance, as well as optimize tire life. In addition, Bridgestone’s vehicle platform technologies provide tire information to vehicle safety and autonomous systems to tune their performance for safer results. Together, Kodiak and Bridgestone will be able to link vehicle-based and intelligent sensing tire technologies to improve vehicle safety, fleet efficiency and the next generation of autonomous trucking solutions.
âAfter a thorough due diligence process, Bridgestone chose Kodiak as their stand-alone trucking partner,â said Don Burnette, co-founder and CEO, Kodiak Robotics. âBridgestone’s investment is a great moment for Kodiak and a great validation of our state-of-the-art autonomous system. As part of our partnership, we are delighted to welcome the Chief Technology Officer and Group President, Solutions Businesses from Bridgestone, Nizar Trigui, to our Board of Directors as an observer. Kodiak and Bridgestone will work together to advance autonomous trucking technology, from tires and sensors to predictive maintenance. ”
